The Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS), which replaced the Worldwide Diagnostic System (WDS) is now the only tool with full coverage for diagnosing Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles including light duty diesels from 1996 and up. The IDS is a laptop based system that uses the Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) and the Vehicle Measurement Module (VMM) for communication and testing.
The VMM consists of a digital multimeter, oscilloscope, and current probe and has the capability to test ignition system, injector flow, fuel pressure, secondary ignition, and fuel leak-down testing. The VCM has the functionality to perform self test, data logger (body, chassis, electrical, powertrain, modules, and pressure/vacuum tests), module programming, vehicle communication network and signal generation monitor (SGM) tests.
